Round and Round

The wheels on Todd’s bike go round and round,
round and round, round and round,
the wheels on Todd’s bike go round and round,
all because it was 50 today

The pedals on Todd’s bike go round and round,
round and round, round and round,
the pedals on Todd’s bike go round and round,
it felt really good to bike outside today

Today was an awesome day!  I was up at 5:30 again this morning.  See my previous post about this.  I then got in a swim bright and early.  I got a number of household tasks done and then I went for a two hour bike ride this afternoon.  The ride was good.  I felt invigorated as I churned the pedals.  My enthusiasm caused me to start off much faster than I should have for the length of ride I was planning.  It just felt so good to not have to ride indoors on a stationary bike again.  I could feel the wind on my face again!  I could also wear my helmet!  I made another mistake in trying to go up north on the trails to the Saylorville Lake area.  I ended up having to stop or unclip from my pedals and proceed slowly a bunch of times because of downed trees or ice/slush zones.  It felt like I was in a cyclocross race as many times as I had to dismount.  When I returned back to Des Moines proper, the trails were clear and well maintained.  There were quite a few people taking advantage of the 53 degree temps today.  I found it funny that almost all bikers were wearing black outerwear, me included, to capture a little bit more warmth.  I didn’t really mind though because it’s not very often when you get such a nice day in January.

It doesn’t look like there will be another suitable day for biking for a while.  The high on Monday is predicted to be 10.  Oh well, it was certainly fun today.
